Thrilled to announce that I received a TONY AWARD NOMINATION FOR BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A MUSICAL FOR MEMPHIS!!! So amazing! I also received the DRAMA DESK AWARD, OUTER CRITICS CIRLCE AWARD, and a DRAMA LEAGUE NOMINATION for my work on MEMPHIS. In addition MEMPHIS received the TONY AWARD FOR BEST MUSICAL as well as TONY AWARDS for BEST SCORE, BEST BOOK, & BEST ORCHESTRATION. Four wins and eight nominations in all for MEMPHIS and we are over the moon as we walk along Beale over at the SHUBERT THEATRE! It's also been very busy after awards season. I was invited to WASHINGTON DC to give a FORD'S CENTER 4th of JULY CONCERT for PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA and FIRST LADY MICHELLE OBAMA.
I sang COLORED WOMAN from MEMPHIS, met the President, the First Lady and had my picture with them both at the WHITE HOUSE where I was an invited guest at their cocktail reception. The concert, AMERICA CELEBERATES the 4th of JULY, aired on ABC JULY 2nd. Catch a peek of it at my Look & Listen section! MEMPHIS continues to be visited by celeb's and recently I made Page 6, along with some pretty exciting talk about a MEMPHIS movie! Made the morning rush to the studios at FOX 5 to promote KIDS NIGHT ON BROADWAY AT MEMPHIS, coming up very soon. Made my first appearance in ESSENCE.COM in an interview about my work on MEMPHIS and my career. Other interviews include, PLAYBILL.COM, WCBS, NY1, CNN, FOX NEWS EDGE, BROADWAY.COM, BLOOMBERG NEWS, NEW YORK TIMES, THEATRE TALK, BROADWAY.TV, BROADWAY CHANNEL, NEWSDAY, BACKSTAGE, LA TIMES, VANITY FAIR, HUFFINGTON POST, OK!, and NY DAILY NEWS with more to come!
Fun to make my PLAYBILL.COM debut a GUEST CELEBRITY BLOGGER, chatting about my days and my thoughts for a week. In the meantime, MEMPHIS celebrated it's 300th PERFORMANCE and we're well on our way to 400! Fantastical!
